Animals & Pets
Wildfires displace and endanger pets, livestock, and wildlife alongside people. Planning for animals ahead of time keeps everyone safer during an evacuation.

If you have pets or livestock
- Include pets in your go-bag planning: food, water, medications, carrier or leash, vaccination records, ID tags and microchip info.
- Evacuate pets with you whenever possible. Only service animals are guaranteed access to public shelters, so identify pet-friendly shelters or boarding in advance.
- For livestock: arrange transportation and alternate shelter or pasture in advance. Don't wait until an evacuation order to figure this out.
- If you must leave animals behind in a fast-moving evacuation: leave them unrestrained with access to food and water if rescue could be delayed, and notify local animal control of their location if possible.

Found or displaced animals
Contact SpokAnimal (listed in Ways to Help) or your county animal control or shelter. Do not approach injured wildlife. Call a licensed wildlife rescue instead.
